You must have heard the news “Iran attack Israel.” Well, it’s true!
Iran recently attacked Israel and launched around 180 missiles according to the Israeli military. This was a larger attack than it did on the barrage in April that witnessed 110 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles fired.
From the footage from Israeli TV, people could see some missiles flying over the Tel Aviv area sometime before 19:45 local time (16:45 GMT).
Israeli aerial defense systems were able to shoot down most missiles, according to an Israeli security official. A BBC correspondent in Jerusalem said the missiles had hit some military bases, restaurants, and schools.
According to what Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) mentioned, 90% of projectiles had successfully hit their targets. It also mentioned that it was the first time hypersonic missiles had been used. IRGC sources further said that three Israeli military bases had been targeted.
According to the statement of the Palestinian civil defense authority in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho, a man there lost his life during the missile barrage of Iran.
A report from the AFP news agency quoting city governor Hussein Hamayel said the victim died after falling into rocket debris.
There has been no indication of any major casualties among Israelis throughout Tuesday’s air raids, but Israeli medics claimed that two people were slightly injured by shrapnel.
Why did Iran attack Israel?
In regard to this, the IRGC said that the attacks were in retaliation of the killing of one of its top commanders and leaders of other Iran backed militias in the region.
And it recalled the assassinations of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC officer Abbas Nilforoshan in Beirut, Lebanon on 27 September.
It also referred to the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July. As much as the Israeli government has not admitted the assassination of Haniyeh, they are known to have been involved.
Iran has not accepted the state of Israel and aims to destroy it. Some of it has spent years financing paramilitary groups hostile to Israel.
In Israel’s estimation, Iran is an existential threat, and it has waged a shadow war against the Islamic Republic for years.
Were Missiles stopped by Iron Dome?
There are several
advanced systems that exist as part of Israel’s air defence system but the most famous one is the Iron Dome. It was developed to counter short-range rockets of the kind used by Hamas and Hezbollah.
While it was helpful in responding to some features of Iran’s last attack in April, other components of the country’s “layered” defence systems battled it out on Tuesday.
David’s Sling, co-developed system of with Israel and America, is a system that targets medium and long-range rockets in addition to ballistic and cruise missiles.
When it comes to the path outside the Earth’s atmosphere, there are the Ballistic Missiles interceptor by Israel that includes the Arrow 2 and Arrow 3. Stay updated by checking Iran missile attack Israel on the Internet to know more.
