Some employees of the world’s biggest online market are gearing up to stage a walk-out during Black Friday.
Amazon workers strike Black Friday!
Amazon workers in more than 20 countries plan Black Friday strikes and protests!
Employees from twenty countries plan to strike for Black Friday to protest against Amazon labor practices, climate impact, and threats to democracy, Progressives International and UNI Global Union speak.
While organized through a campaign named the “Make Amazon Paydays of resistance,” the strike is to occur from Black Friday through Cyber Monday, the union said in a statement.
Increased wage rates and employees being allowed to form a union of their own are some of the demands that the demonstrators have expressed.
People protested during the ‘Make Amazon Pay’ in front of the newly opened Amazon Fresh Store in Washington, DC, on November 25, 2022. The jobs could be lost, and the consumer might receive holiday packages later, tilting reeve economy experts to ABC News.
Organizations of workers and other affiliate organizations are expected to be present, and this is according to UNI Global Union.
The strike will affect Amazon’s business since workers from various countries will protest. The union has complained about the Working conditions at Amazon Company, such as wages, contractual hours of work, and employment protection.
The strike also draws public attention to the harm that Amazon causes to the environment and the tales about the company’s interference with democracy.
Amazon, similarly, has been accused in the past of treating workers poorly and paying them inadequately. This company has also been painted as anti-union because the company fires employees who seek to unionize. The strike is viewed as a major step up in the workers’ labor conflict with Amazon.
Regarding the planned strike, Amazon says that it recognizes the workers’ rights to demonstrate but insists on being able to run the business effectively and deliver packages to its clients as planned.
The company has also invested heavily in other social responsibilities by ensuring a non-sexual workplace for the employees.
However, the union has questioned Amazon’s intention by stating that the company has a record of being against the union and that it has not been fair to employees.
Will Amazon’s pursuit of profit take over the employees’ fight for fairness, or shall Amazon listen to their demands?
