Seahawks’ starting quarterback, Geno Smith, got a knee injury in the second half after a low sack attempt by Green Bay. The 34-year-old had to face downgrading and was put in question. He didn’t return to the game after being replaced by Sam Howell.
After the Seahawks were beaten 30-13 by the Packers, head coach Mike Macdonald was asked to comment on Geno Smith’s injury.
He told the reporters that, from a structural point of view, it seemed to be all right.
Macdonald said that Smith wanted to return and was ready to do so before Howell took an interception with less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter, which Smith could not get back into the game.
Macdonald commented that Geno Smith was one of the toughest players he had seen. His injury was severe enough for him not to come back into the game. He further said that they would be doing all the tests the next day and figuring out things as they progress.
Whether Smith will need to sit some games out is still uncertain since tests are to be taken tomorrow.
Smith attempted to make his way off the field on his power but stumbled and had to be helped by the athletic training staff.
In the game before Smith left, he went 15-of-19 for 149 yards, one interception.
Howell played for the Washington Commanders in the last season, and during this time, he started all 17 games, throwing 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions; 63.4 percent completion. He has played in just one game for Seattle this season – closing out a 34-14 thrashing of the Atlanta Falcons.
Smith has been playing very well for the 8-5 Seahawks, ranking second in the league in passing yards with 3,474. This year, he has passed for 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 53.3.
