New York Magazine’s Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi has been put on leave over rumors of a romantic relationship between Robert F. Kennedy Jr and Nuzzi.
The alleged romance is said to have developed following the Kennedy piece that Nuzzi did for the magazine in November 2023. Nuzzi confessed to the editors of the magazine that she abused the rules on conflict of interest to have a liaison with a political campaign figure.
The magazine said that had they known this, Nuzzi would have been precluded from covering the presidential elections. From an internal review, it was found out that there were no errors or bias in her articles, but apologised for misleading the readers.
But Kennedy’s team refused to acknowledge the relationship, saying they had only met once for an interview that produced a “hit piece. ”
According to sources, the two started dating over the New Year holidays, but Nuzzi never called on Kennedy as a source, during the coverage of elections. To this, the magazine has started a comprehensive third-party review.
Such a situation brings raises questions about ethical journalism and conflict of interest. As a consequence, it will change the further cooperation of Nuzzi with the magazine and her reputation as a journalist.

Kennedy, 70, has been married to Cheryl Hines since 2014. Cheryl Hines is the actor known for her role in “Curb your Enthusiasm” and is the third wife of Kennedy.
Kennedy began his presidential campaign in April 2023 targeting Biden for the presidency but later dropped the ticket and moved to an independent campaign and later on dropped out in August 2024 to support Trump.
Olivia Nuzzi’s report on President Biden’s mental decline has led to controversy. Bloomberg had to scrap promotion of her “Working Capital” series amid left-wing backlash. Biden took his leave in the 2024 race shortly after. This increased Democratic Party pressure. Thus, it is evident that there has been a “conspiracy of silence” surrounding Biden’s mental health.
