Singer Taylor Swift spoke in favor of US Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid on the Instagram social platform. The 32-year-old singer, with more than 283 million followers, complimented Harris for being a ‘steady-handed gifted leader’ and her vice candidate Tim Walz for advocating for fair rights of gays and lesbians and women’s right to abortion, among others.
Swift’s endorsement happened following the Harris-Trump intense confrontation in the presidential debate. He said that she told him she was “heartened and impressed” by Harris’ performance, and she then agreed to go public with her endorsement.
The singer-songwriter also had a shot at Trump’s vice presidential candidate, Senator JD Vance, who referred to women without children as ‘childless cat ladies. ’ Swift appended her signature to the message with the phrase and attached a picture of her holding her cat named Benjamin Button.
The Harris campaign said that support from Taylor Swift was a shock, but they embraced it as part of winning what they referred to as a “decisive victory” for the vice president. Swift had earlier endorsed Joe Biden and Harris for the presidency in the year 2020.
Swift has only started speaking out politically in recent years compared to the past few years. Of the many songs given to various campaigns during the 2020 cycle, she granted the Biden-Harris campaign permission to use her song “Only the Young. ”
In the same post, Swift also decried some people who had been sharing fake pictures of her supporting Trump for presidential candidacy. She added that it explained why it is wrong to share fake news and how one has to operate in a very transparent manner.
The fans, who identify themselves as Swifties for Kamala and are not affiliated with either woman, expressed their enthusiasm over the endorsement. Trump, for his part, appeared unfazed, and upon being asked to comment on the development, he flatly declared, “I have no idea. ”
